The Hawai’i County Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Ohia Street Sunday afternoon.

Fire personnel arrived on scene at 2:47 p.m., where they found a two-story 30-by-30-foot structure fully engulfed in flames. A blitz line was deployed to contain the perimeter of the fire and avoid risk of spreading to nearby bushes.

HFD continued to contain the spread of the fire as additional water sources were awaited. The fire was finally brought under control at 2:35 p.m.

Authorities say two residents of the home were accounted for and Red Cross services were requested to assist a 40-year-old female resident of the home.

The structure had no electricity and was not permitted or insured, according to HFD.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the incident.
