Holualoa Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash
A single vehicle crash in Kailua-Kona Monday morning resulted in the death of a 54-year-old Holualoa man.
Authorities have identified the man as Christopher Allen of Holualoa.
The Hawai’i Police Department responded to a 6:37 a.m. call, where they learned that Allen was operating a 2004 Toyota pickup truck and traveling north on Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway, south of the Kealakehe Parkway intersection, when he ran off the east shoulder of the roadway.
Police say Allen’s vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned in a lava field right off of the highway.
Allen was taken to Kona Community Hospita, where he was pronounced dead at 10:48 a.m.
Both speed and inattention are believed to be factors in the crash, according to HPD.
An autopsy was ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
A coroner’s inquest investigation has been opened by the Traffic Enforcement Unit.
HPD had a single lane of the roadway closed for several hours Monday morning.
