Lyman Museum to Host Talk with Dr. Patrick Vinton Kirch

The Lyman Museum will present “Unearthing the Polynesian Past” with Dr. Patrick Vinton Kirch on Monday, May 2.

Dr. Kirch has explored the Pacific as an archaeologist for nearly 50 years. Research has taken the seasoned explorer to over two dozen islands, from Mussau to Hawai’i and even Easter Island.

Within Hawai’i, Dr. Kirch has traced history in Anahulu Valley, located on Oahu, and across the ancient districts of Kahikinui, Maui.

Research conducted by Dr. Kirch, along with ecologists, soil scientists, and paleontologists, has brought together an understanding of how Polynesians adapted to and transformed island ecosystems.

Dr. Kirch recently published a memoir, “Unearthing the Polynesian Past,” which highlights and tells the stories of his many expeditions among the islands and people of the Pacific. His memoir is free from academic jargon and explores through a narrative.

The presentation is free to Lyman Museum members and $3 for non-members.
