Kodi Medeiros Moves Up in Minor Leagues
Waiakea High School graduate Kodi Medeiros is moving up in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
Medeiros, a 19-year-old southpaw pitcher, will be with the Brevard County Manatees to start the 2016 Minor League Baseball season. The Manatees are a Class-A Advanced Affiliate of the Brewers, located in Melbourne, Fla.
Last season, Medeiros was pitching for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, a full season Class-A team. He was 4-5 with a save in 25 appearances on the mound, including 16 starts. He had a 4.44 earned run average with 94 strikeouts and 40 walks. He did not allow a home run in 93 1/3 innings pitched.
Medeiros, a first round selection by Milwaukee in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft, is ranked by the club as its seventh-best prospect in the organization. The team projects him to reach the majors by the 2018 season.
Brevard County has not announced whether Medeiros will open the season as a starter or as a reliever.
The season opens for Brevard County on Thursday night at the Daytona Tortugas. The Manatees compete in the Florida Coast League.
