Evenflo Recalls 56K Booster Seats

Evenflo has voluntarily recalled 56,000 of the company’s Transitions 3-in-1 Combination Booster Seats, with model number 34411686, 34411695, and 34411029, which were manufactured before Jan. 29, 2016.

At least one Big Island resident has confirmed to Big Island Now that they have the booster seat being recalled.

The recall is a result of concerns that children may be able to access the seat’s harness adjuster button and loosen the harness.

According to the company, there is concern that children using the seat in one of the first three of its modes, called the forward-facing harness mode, may be able to access the seat’s Central Front Adjuster. The concern is that children may be able to loosen the harness straps and would not be snug in their seat.

Evenflo officials say no injuries have been reported as a result of the concern.

The high-back belt-positioning mode and the no-back belt-positioning mode do not have concerns.

Customers who are affected by the recall can receive a free remedy kit, which includes a replacement bottom seat pad, a Central Front Adjuster, and installation instructions.

Evenflo officials say the remedy kit will eliminate the possibility of a child accessing the Central Front Adjuster.

The issue was brought to the company’s attention through a regular review of customer feedback, according to Evenflo Safety Advocate Sarah Haverstick.

“If your child is only able to use the Transitions seat in harnessed mode because of his or her size and you’ve observed your child pulling back the seat pad to access the Central Front Adjuster, please discontinue using the seat until you’ve installed the free remedy kit,” said Haverstick. “If your child is 40 pounds and 43 inches tall, fitting the requirements for using the seat in its two belt-positioning modes, or is not pulling back the seat pad in harnessed mode, the seat may be used safely until your remedy kit arrives.”
