New NW Swell Builds Today, Larger Swell Soon
Alerts (as of 1:00 a.m.)
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for all Big Island waters through 6 p.m. Monday with winds from 20 to 25 knots and seas up to 11 feet.
**Click directly on the images below to make them larger. Charts include: Big Island projected winds, tides, swell direction & period and expected wave heights.**
Hilo side: Wave heights for spots exposed to the north-northwest are expected to rise through the day up to maybe overhead or more at the best breaks on the sets. White-capping conditions due to the winds.
Kona side: Wave heights are expected to be waist high or less today with belly high waves on the sets at the best spots at the best tides.
South: Kona side expected to get mainly wave heights under waist high.
A new shot of northwest swell is expected to build today, hold through Tuesday morning, then fade. A solid large northwest swell is expected to build Wednesday, peaking overnight and fading through the second half of the week. The Kona side will be largely shadowed by the other islands.
Not much expected out of the SPAC the next few days. A small swell could fill in starting Monday/Tuesday, peak Tuesday before fading back down.
Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
