DLNR DOBOR Opens New Kailua Pier Office
A new boating office for the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation has been opened at the Kailua Pier in Kailua-Kona.
The office will be used by DOBOR staff to manage day-by-day operations of the pier and provide support to recreation boaters in the area.
“We opened this new office as an extension of our Honokohau Harbor office for the benefit of boaters residing in West Hawai’i,” said Ed Underwood, DOBOR Administrator. “Because the pier is heavily used and it is a recreational resource for the community, we want to be sure we have a presence here to keep it well-managed and maintained.”
During normal operating hours, the public can hail DOBOR staff on the gate intercom to gain access to five parking stalls available at the pier to conduct DOBOR business only.
When the office is closed or unattended, the entrance to the facility parking lot will be gated.
Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Pending staff availability, hours of operation may change.
For questions regarding access and available services, the public should call the Kailua Pier office at 327-4318.
In addition to the entry point for cruise ship passengers visiting Kailua-Kona, the Kailua Pier hosts the Ironman competition and the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament annually.
