On Jan. 31, 2016, the Ka’auhuhu Reuse Center in Hawi will close indefinitely.

The County of Hawai’i Department of Environmental Management Solid Waste Division made the announcement Wednesday, reporting that the closure is due to the inability to find a center operator.

County officials say the search for qualified contractors will continue, and that the Hawi Reuse Center may reopen in the future should the appropriate bids for service arise.

In addition, the County is seeking other potential options for reuse in the North Kohala District.
