An evening in honor of the history and talent of the legendary 1937 to 1966 New York City venue, The Hawaiian Room, will take place on Thursday, Oct. 15 at the Niaulani Campus of the Volcano Art Center in Volcano Village.
The Thursday evening program will be anchored by the new documentary film, “The Hawaiian Room” by Ann Marie N. Kirk, who will be in attendance, along with Nona Wilson, an original of “the room.” After the film, hula styling will be performed by the originals over 50 years later.

Over the course of three decades, The Hawaiian Room at The Hotel Lexington, in the heart of New York City became an incomparable venue that shared the Aloha and Hawaiian culture at a far.
The showing is part of an evening series at the Volcano Art Center, “Thursday Night at the Center,” that places the focus on art, Hawaiian culture, and the environment. The program is free, but a $5 donation is appreciated.

On Friday, Oct. 16 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., a Hapa-Haole Hula Workshop will be held, called “Hawaiian Room Style” with instructor TeMoana Makolo. The workshop is $18 and $15 for VAC members. Pre-registration for the workshop is required by calling 967-8222.
