Flood Advisory Posted for Big Island through 7 p.m.

The National Weather Service has posted a Flood Advisory for parts of the Big Island until 7:00 p.m.

Radar has showed heavy rain about 13 miles northeast of Honaunau. Additional heavy showers and thunderstorms were developing 14 miles southeast of Waimea and near Waikii. The areas of rain were nearly stationary.

Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Puuanahulu, Waikoloa Beach Resort, Pohakuloa, Mauna Kea summit, Waipio Valley, Waikoloa Village, Upolu Airport, Saddle Road Junction, Puako, Paauilo, Mahukona, Laupahoehoe, Kawaihae, Honokaa and Hawi.

A Flood Advisory is posted for the Big Island until 4:15 p.m.

The National Weather Service reports radar is showing heavy rain near Paauilo. Additional showers and thunderstorms were developing over the North Kohala district and leeward locations from Captain Cook to Waikoloa Village. The areas of heavy rain were nearly stationary.

Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Waipio Valley, Upolu airport, Mahukona, Kawaihae, Kamuela, Honokaa and Hawi.

The National Weather Service reports, radar showed heavy rain over North Hilo, South Hilo, Puna and East Kau districts overnight. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary. A Flood Advisory has been issued and is posted through 8:15 a.m. this morning.

Other locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Pepeekeo, Papaikou, Paauilo, Ookala, Lauapahoehoe, Honomou and Hakalau.

A Flood Advisory means flooding is imminent in the area. If heavy rain continues, this advisory could be extended or upgraded to a warning. The National Weather Service is reminding residents to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
