Flood Advisory Posted Extended to 6:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service has extended the Flood Advisory to 6:30 p.m. for the Kona slopes and added new locations to the advisory as well.

Radar showed heavy rain continuing over the south Kona district with the highest rates of 2 inches per hour reported by a rain gage at Honaunau. Moderate to heavy rainfall has also developed over the Kau district near Wood Valley and Highway 11 between Pahala and Naalehu. The area has been shifting slowly southward.

Other locations in the advisory include, bur are not limited to, Kainaliu, Kealakekua, Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, Keauhou and Kailua-Kona.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for upslope areas on the Kona side. The advisory is posted through 4:00 p.m. but could be extended if flooding conditions persist or upgraded if the flooding becomes more severe.

Radar is currently showing moderate to heavy showers over the slope of the North Kona district and along the slopes of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa near Pohakuloa. The rainfall is also affecting Highway 190 (Mamalahoa) west of Puuanahulu.

This area of heavy rain has been nearly stationary and the rainfall is expected to continue for the next several hours. Additional heavy rain is possible over the south Kona district as well.

Other locations in the advisory, include but are not limited to, Waikoloa, Saddle road, Kainalu, Kealakekua and Honaunau.
