Kūkulu Ola Film Series Presents ‘Ike’

Kahilu Theatre will screen ‘‘Ike; Knowledge is Everywhere,’ as part of the theater’s second annual Kūkulu Ola Living Hawaiian Culture Film Series.

The film, directed by Matthew Nagato, will be shown on Sunday, Aug. 9 at 4 p.m.

In the documentary, both challenges and triumphs of Hawai’i’s education system is explored. The film follows the prequel, ‘Ola – Health is Everything,’ which offers an intimate portrait of brave individuals lighting the fires of knowledge for others in their communities.

‘Ike celebrates the power of compassion, collaboration, and community to address society’s most pressing social issues. The film provides insight into the long-term effect on a person’s health and an overall look at education as a primary source of opportunity, as it affects the everyday workings of society.

A mixture of deep personal and emotional segments are collaborated to create a film budding with the reality of education facing students of all ages and a glimmer of hope with a pathway to the future.

Following the film, a post-film discussion will led by the Waimea Education Hui.

Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for children under 12-years-old and seniors 65-years-old and older.

Kahilu’s Kūkulu Ola Living Hawaiian Culture Film Series will present a film on seven Sundays between August and December. The evenings will begin with the filmmaker, subject in the film, or appointed representative introducing the film and be followed by a talk story period.

Prior to the showings, a cultural workshop will take place in the afternoon, including an active, participatory activity either at Kahilu or in the surrounding community.
