A Couple Small Swells Expected This Weekend

A Small Craft Advisory is posted for the ʻAlenuihāhā channel and leeward and southeast waters 6:00 a.m. Wednesday. Northeast winds up to 25 knots are expected with rough seas up to 11 feet.

Big Island Surf Forecast

Hilo side: Knee/waist high waves expected today for trade swell magnets. Best breaks could get bigger on the sets.

Kona side: Wave heights of knee/waist high are expected for the best southerly exposures. The best breaks could get a bit bigger on the sets from time to time.

South: Wave heights knee/waist high to chest high on the sets are expected today.

Our current small southwest will fade over the next few days. A new swell is also due in next weekend.

A new small northwest is expected to build Friday but not expected to get bigger than waist high. No significant swells on the horizon.

A long-period easterly bump in the swell may arrive by midweek, possibly from former hurricane Blanca. However, hurricane swell from that distance can be notoriously tough to predict.

Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
