Hawai’i Ranked Fifth Safest State

Hawai’i was ranked fifth overall in WalletHub’s 2015’s Safest States to Live In study.

Under five key dimensions, WalletHub analyzed each of the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The dimensions include: Financial Safety, Road Safety, Workplace Safety, Natural Disasters, and Home & Community Safety. Twenty metrics were used as they pertained to the dimensions.

With one being the best, 25 the average, and 51 the worst, Hawai’i took a space in three different categories in the top three. The state ranked second, following Massachusetts, in the category of Lowest Share of the Population with No Health Insurance, and also ranked second in the category of Number of Murders & Non-Negligent Manslaughters per 100,000 Residents. Additionally, Hawai’i filled the third spot when it came to the Lowest Number of Fatal Occupational Injuries per 100,000 Residents.

Hawai’i ranked number one when it came to overall Natural Disasters, while categories like Road Safety and Work Place Safety ranked overall at 23 and 19, respectively.

Massachusetts, Vermont, Minnesota, and New Hampshire fill the top four spots as the overall safest states to live in.
