UH-Hilo Choirs Present ‘Spring Fling’

On Saturday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. the University of Hawai’i at Hilo’s Kapili Choir and University Chorus will jointly present the “Spring Fling” and concert of choral favorites.

The UH-Hilo concert will be performed at the First United Protestant Church in Hilo.

“Spring Fling honors a world-wide, centuries-old tradition of beautiful choral music, performed in venues well suited to a choir’s unique acoustical needs, and featuring composers both local and from far away. Local composer Michael Springer’s beloved arrangement of Waika leads the concert into music of many lands and languages,” said Amy Horst, UH-Hilo’s Director of Choral Activities.

Mark Scheffield, a tenor and local voice teacher, will be a part of the “Spring Fling” concert. He will perform a solo number of his own and lead the Kapili Choir in the classic “Ain’t Got Time To Die.”

In addition, Walter Greenwood, a pianist, organist, band leader and the pianist for the UH-Hilo choral program, will perform original improvisational works on the piano.

Tickets to the concert are $10 General and $5 Discount, Students with valid ID, and children under 17.
