Aloha Kona Urgent Care Now Open

Aloha Kona Urgent Care has recently opened at the Pottery Terrace commercial center in Kailua-Kona. The non-profit clinic will serve the urgent medical needs of the Kona area with a seven-day-a-week schedule. Patients will be seen from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends.

Non-life threatening illness and injuries will be provided medical care at the “walk-in” clinic during hours that regular doctors’ offices are closed and as an alternative to a hospital’s emergency room.

A variety of non-life threatening issues can be taken care of at the center, including burns, infections, colds, and the flu. The facility is also equipped to handle more complex injuries like broken bones and lacerations. In the future, Aloha Urgent Care officials say they would like to add an X-Ray facility to provide quick diagnosis for physical injuries without a hospital.

The clinic’s mission is to complement and enhance the community’s existing medical providers while addressing the well-documented shortage of physicians and medical care on the Big Island. According to a release from Aloha Kona Urgent Care, the clinic was born out of the unmet demand for medical services after work hours and on weekends, and as a solution for working families who find after-hour care a necessity based on work schedules.

Staff members at Aloha Kona Urgent Care are all full-or-part-time University of The Nations personnel.

The urgent care’s new facility is 2,000 square feet with a reception and waiting area, nurses’ station, four exam rooms, a procedure room, secure drug storage, and dispensary and laboratory equipment.

Most insurance providers will be accepted, including Quest, Hawai’i Medical Service Association, Hawai’i Assurance Association, University Health Alliance, and Aloha Care.
