A Small Craft Advisory is posted for the ʻAlenuihāhā channel as well as waters to the south and west of the Big Island through 6:00 a.m. Friday for east winds from 20 to 25 knots and rough seas of 7 to 13 feet. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

Cloudy skies are in the forecast with showers likely in windward areas and isolated morning showers in leeward spots. In the afternoon scattered showers are expected. East winds are forecasted around 15 mph. High temperatures from 80° to 85°.

The windward side is forecasted to get mostly cloudy skies and frequent showers. Leeward spots are expected to get scattered showers. East winds are forecasted around 15 mph. Low temperatures from 67° to 72° are expected. Snow showers are possible on our summits.

Looking Ahead

Showers carried by the trades are expected to favor windward and mauka areas. Trade wind speeds are forecasted to weaken slightly on Friday. An increase in showers is expected Friday and Saturday due to an area of enhanced tropical moisture spreading up from the southeast over the eastern end of the main Hawaiian Island chain. Snow showers are possible on our highest summits from Friday night into Saturday. Drier and breezier conditions are forecast to return early next week as a surface high strengthens to the northeast of the islands.
