Manini’owali Beach Ranked in Top Beaches Nationwide
If you’re looking for the picture-perfect image of a Hawai‘i shoreline, you won’t be disappointed by a visit to Manini‘owali Beach, also known as ‘Kua Bay’.
Located on the Kona side of the Big Island at mile marker 88 off Highway 19, it is considered one of the best places to swim on the island. In fact, it recently ranked as the #15 beach in the nation by TripAdvisor.com, and for good reason.
The ocean at Manini‘owali Beach is so blue you can see fish swimming at your feet in waist-high water. The multitude of fish and crystal-clear waters make for great snorkeling. Body-boarding is also a great activity at this beach when the waves pickup, but beware of the powerful surf when it gets going. There are no lifeguards.
In recent years, the rugged four-wheel drive road leading up to Manini‘owali Beach has been paved. It is now much easier to access, and on-site facilities like bathrooms, showers and picnic tables are available. However, there are also more crowds showing up to soak up the sun, sand, and clear water.
All things considered, Manini‘owali Beach is a beautiful part of the island to experience and should be on any visitor or resident’s beach trip list.
