Renovations Will Close Kealakekua Public Library

Renovations to the Kealakekua Public Library will force the facility to close beginning Feb. 19. The book drop will be locked and inaccessible beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18 and remain locked throughout the duration of the project.

Scheduled renovations include exterior painting and various repairs and improvement within the library.

Library patrons may visit other public libraries to return books and other materials, as well as browse their collections.

An additional resource is the Hawai’i State Public Library System website, where individuals can complete the following tasks:

Renew books and most library materials online for an additional three weeks if there is no reserve on the items. The HSPLS only allows one renewal per item. Some items are not eligible for online renewal, including Hot Picks, DVDs, videotape, and overdue materials. If an item has been requested by someone else, a renewal will not be allowed. Items can also be renewed by telephone or by visiting any public library in the system.

Patrons can also browse the HSPLS Catalog for book titles, eBooks, digital audio books, and a wide variety of online databases which provide access to full-text materials from thousands of magazines, newspapers, journals, and other publications.

While online at the HSPLS website, patrons can check out the system’s netbook computer loan program, HSPLS App, E-Resources, like HI Tech Academy, Mango Languages, Zinio for Libraries, and more.

Answers to brief informational reference questions can also be answered online using the “Ask-A-Librarian” E-Reference service.

No reopening date has been announced for the location, but the community will be informed when the library is ready to reopen.
