Structure Fire in Captain Cook Causes Extensive Damage
The Hawai’i County Fire Department responded to a two-story wooden structure fire on Painted Church Road in Captain Cook Tuesday. At 7:14 p.m., fire fighters arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in fire.
The fire in the structure, made with an asphalt shingle roof and double wall construction with drywall covering the interior, was put out using 22,000 gallons of water, 20 gallons of class ‘A’ foam and the man power of 18 fire fighters.
No occupants were in the structure at the time and no injuries were reported.
Total loss of the building in the incident is estimated to be about $437,500.
Currently, the cause of the fire remains unknown and continues to be investigated.
