List of Closures and Cancellations Due to Hurricane Ana

The following events have been cancelled due to the impending approach of Hurricane Ana:

• KBIG FM’s Breast Walk Ever, originally scheduled for Saturday at Queen Lili’uokalani Gardens in Hilo
• County of Hawai’i Department of Parks and Recreation’s Mayor’s Health Fest and Keiki Triathlon, originally set for Saturday at Kekuaokalani Gymnasium and Old Kona Airport Park.
• Kona Commons Fall Fashion show, scheduled for Saturday. It has been rescheduled to Nov. 1.
• Pana’ewa Zoo Playground re-opening, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. More time needed to install turf safety system due to rainy weather.
• State Department of Health’s free workshop on “Unexploded Military Ordnance,” originally scheduled for Friday at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Hotel.
• Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge Open House, scheduled for Saturday.
• Puna Hongwanji Mission Rummage Sale postponed. It has been moved to Saturday, Oct. 25.
• Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is closed on Friday
• Family Peace Walk & Vigil, initially scheduled for 4 pm Friday in Hilo and Kona.
• KTA Puainako’s Pharmacy Wellness Fair, originally scheduled for Saturday.
• E Malama Mau I Ka Hula Festival in Hilo. It will be rescheduled for a later date.
• West Hawaiʻi Explorations Academy’s Kanikapila Jam and Hoʻolauleʻa, scheduled for Saturday. It has been moved to Saturday, Nov. 1.
• Keauhou Shopping Center Friday Night Hula Show has been scrapped.
• Paradise Roller Girls Battle of the Islands 2014, originally set for Friday and Saturday, will be rescheduled sometime in mid-November.
• Rotary of Kona’s Project Compassion, initially scheduled for Sunday. There is a possibility that the event will be rescheduled.
• Honomu Henjoji Mission’s rummage sale, originally set for Saturday, has now been moved to Nov. 15.
• Volcano Art Center Gallery will be closed on Friday and will likely reopen at Noon Saturday.
• HPA’s Pumpkin Patch, scheduled for Sunday, has been moved to Oct. 26.
• Rotary Oktoberfest, originally scheduled for Friday, has been pushed back to Nov. 15.
• Duke Aiona & Elwin Ahu rally, scheduled for Friday in Hilo, was cancelled.
• Keauhou Farmers Market, scheduled for Saturday, is cancelled.

• All Big Island public schools.
• St. Joseph School.
• Kamehameha Schools Hawai’i Campus and all Hawai’i Island preschools.
• ʻOhana Keiki Preschool in Kona.
• Ke Ana La`ahana Public Charter School in Keaukaha.
• Waimea Country School

Sports

• UH-Hilo men’s and women’s soccer matches, scheduled for Saturday afternoon against Chaminade, have been cancelled. Rescheduled for Nov. 6 at UHH.
• All BIIF Sporting events (Volleyball, Cheerleading, Football) and practices cancelled starting Thursday.
  • Cheerleading championships will be rescheduled for Oct. 22 at Waiakea HS
  • All VB matches will not be made up
  • All semifinal football games will be played next week: Keaau at Hilo (Friday, 7 p.m. at Wong Stadium), Honokaa at Kamehameha-Hawaii (Friday, 7 p.m.), Hawaii Prep at Konawaena (Friday, 7:30 p.m.), Waiakea at Kealakehe (JV at 5 p.m., Varsity at 7:30 p.m.)

  • Saturday sail from Honolulu to Hilo has been rescheduled for Friday evening.
    • Young Brothers projects that the U.S. Coast Guard will not close the Port of Hilo.
  • Thursday Sail from Honolulu to Kawaihae has been rescheduled for Friday evening.
    • Y.B. projects that the U.S. Coast Guard will not close the Port of Kawaihae.
• Puu Wa’a Wa’a feral goat and sheep hunt, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, has been cancelled.
• All hunting at Pohakuloa Training Area will not take place this weekend.
• Big Island libraries will close on Friday.
• Volcano Art Center’s annual meeting, now scheduled for Oct. 26.
  • Proxy ballot deadline has been extended to Oct. 22.
