The Big Island Interscholastic Federation girls volleyball regular season has abruptly concluded, thanks to Tropical Storm Ana and a late forfeit.

The BIIF announced Wednesday that all games scheduled Thursday and through the weekend would be cancelled. Only two games, Kohala at Hilo and Makua Lani at East-Pac, were to be rescheduled and played Monday.

Both of those games had an impact on who would get the final seeded spot in the BIIF Division II Girls Volleyball Tournament, which starts Tuesday. Both Kohala and Makua Lani were tied with a 3-10 record.

According to BIIF Executive Director Lyle Crozier, Kohala decided to forfeit its rescheduled game. He said that Kohala made its decision based on not being able to have any practice time before the match, since the Department of Education cancelled all practices and games beginning Thursday.

If Kohala were to win and earn the final berth in the league tournament, it would play the following night at Honoka’a.

Because of Kohala’s forfeit, East-Pac gains the final seed in the league tournament. It will not need to play Makua Lani on Monday.
