Ponahawai Street Scheduled for Resurfacing in July

A public meeting will be held Friday, June 20, to discuss plans for resurfacing a busy downtown Hilo street.

The project involving repaving of Ponahawai Street from Kamehameha Avenue to Kapiolani Street is scheduled to get underway the week beginning Monday, July 7.

The meeting will be held at the Aupuni Conference Center on Friday, June 20 from 1-2:30 p.m. Parking is free in stalls marked “visitor.”

Representatives of contractor Jas W. Glover Ltd. will present a traffic control plan and speak on the scope and timeframe of the project.

The project will also include utility line work and traffic signal upgrades at three of Ponahawai’s intersections, at Kilauea Avenue and at Kinoole and Kapiolani streets.

Anyone requiring auxiliary aid or communication services at the meeting is asked to call the Department of Public Works at 961-8321 five days before the meeting date to arrange for accommodations.
