Biz Quickies: Top 10 Cars On The Big Island?

Toyota holds nearly one-third of the Big Island automobile sales market share with Honda pulling in the number two spot in 2013, according to the trade publication Auto Outlook, put out by the Hawaii Automobile Dealers Association.

Here are the Big Island’s top ten manufacturers ranked by market share:

1. Toyota (30.4%)
2. Honda (20.6%)
3. Nissan (11.3%)
4. Ford (6.3%)
5. Kia (4.3%)
6. Mazda (3.0%)
7. Hyundai (3.0%)
8. Chevrolet (2.6%)
9. BMW (2.1%)
10. Lexus (0.6%)

The HADA also reported auto and truck sales increasing statewide in 2013. Big Island sales led all counties with a 22.3% increase for the year, and automobile dealers are expecting sales to increase again in 2014, continuing a four-year recovery since the bottoming of the market in 2010.

Big Island Walkers Raise $$$ For Charity
The 36th annual statewide Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised a record $1.75 million for non-profit charities and organizations in Hawaii. Hawaii Island did its part at the Mauna Lani Resort where 1,700 walkers participated, contributing $276,218. Only Oahu ($390,000) raise more. Winner of the Mayors’ Challenge, a competition for the highest percentage increase over the previous year, will be announced in June.
