Biz Quickies: No Sale At $26.5M, Estate Goes To Auction

The fabulous “Waterfalling Estate” in Ninoole, listed on the market for more than eight months at $26.5 million, will be auctioned off. The 8100-square-foot mansion sits on 9.44 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean and its own waterfalls.

The auction is scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at the estate, 32-1056 Old Mamalahoa Hwy. The property includes a 450-seat tennis and basketball stadium, 250-millon gallon Olympic Infinity swimming pool with high dive and two-story waterslide, and a nine-hole golf course. Bids Sought for Big Island Carbon’s Assets
The processing facility and biomass power plant formerly owned by Big Island Carbon are being liquidated in US Bankruptcy Court. Sealed bids are due April 4. The company spent more than $50 million on the plant in Kawaihae designed to turn macadamia nut shells into granulated carbon and was on the verge of starting operations in 2012 when it filed for bankruptcy. Prince Resorts Thank Kamaaina

Prince Resorts Hawaii is offering a special “Kamaaina Mahalo Months” promotion to thank Hawaii residents for their support at all three Prince properties: Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Hawaii Prince Waikiki Hotel and Golf Club. Room rates start at $169 plus tax/night for an Oceanfront Marina room in Waikiki, up to $299 plus tax/night for a Golf Vista room at the Mauna Kea Beach. Kamaaina also receive daily $10 food and beverage credit per room. The offer is valid April 1 – June 30.

Abercrombie To Address Kona-Kohala Chamber
The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce will host Gov. Neil Abercrombie at its 2014 Focus Luncheon, 11:30 a.m. at the Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Cost is $55 for non-members. Reserve a seat by March 21. An accompanying Business Expo is free and open to the public. Call 329-1758.

Revenue Per Room Higher on Big Island Higher
Big Island hotel occupancy rates decreased 1.2 percentage points in 2013 to 60.8%. The average daily rate for a room on the Big Island however increased 11.2% to a record $214.11 for the year compared to 2012, said Hospitality Advisors LLC in a draft report published by Pacific Business News. The resulting revenue per room reported on the Big Island increased 9% in 2013.
