Energy Storage Market Eyed
The state, Hawaii County and Hawaii Electric Light Co. are partners in a project to attract companies interested in testing pre-commercial energy storage units at the Hawaii Ocean Science and Technology Park in Kailua-Kona, Pacific Business News reported. The worldwide market for wind and solar energy storage systems is expected to grow from about $150 million annually in 2013 to $10.3 billion over the next 10 years.

Hotels Hike Rates, Fill Rooms
Big Island hotels reversed a recent trend of rising rates and falling occupancies in the week of Feb. 2-8, recording an 8.8% increase in average daily room rates to $224.11, and a 2.8% increase in occupancy to 82%. In Hawaii, only Kauai joined the Big Island with increases in both occupancy and rates for the week, according to Hospitality Advisors and Smith Travel Research, reported in Pacific Business News.
