Hawaiʻi Island residents flying to Honolulu on Sunday should allow extra time at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport if they are checking baggage, following an advisory from the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation.

Travelers from Hawaii Island should check their airline’s flight status and allow additional time for the baggage process if their departure is from Terminal 2.

The department is advising passengers departing from Terminal 2 with checked bags to arrive at least two and a half hours before their scheduled flight due to outages affecting baggage-screening equipment.

The equipment problems are not expected to affect the time passengers need to pass through Transportation Security Administration checkpoints, HDOT said.

Canine teams are being mobilized to help minimize delays, but passengers with checked luggage should continue allowing additional time for baggage screening until the Department of Transportation announces that the extra time is no longer necessary.

Passengers who are not checking bags, as well as those departing from Terminal 1, can continue to follow the airport’s normal arrival recommendations.
