Property tax, PONC Stewardship Grants deadlines extended
The County of Hawaiʻi has extended the window for at least two upcoming deadlines for property taxes and a grant application.
Real property tax
Due to the continued effects of Hurricane Lala, Mayor Kimo Alameda signed and authorized the following under the First Supplemental Emergency Proclamation:
- Real property taxes due Aug. 20, 2026, may be paid up to Oct. 13, 2026, with no penalty and interest;
- The agricultural, native forest and historical residential dedication applications may be filed by Oct. 13, 2026;
- The solar water heater and private road tax credit applications/information may be filed by Oct. 13, 2026.
PONC program stewardship grants
The County of Hawai‘i has extended the application deadline for Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission (PONC) program stewardship grants to 11:59 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31.
Qualified nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply to this grant program for funding to support the public safety upkeep, resource management, and historical preservation of lands acquired through PONC.
Applicants must meet strict criteria to qualify for funding:
- Applicants must be registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or operate directly under a qualified 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor;
- Submissions must include a highly detailed project business plan;
- Awardees must sign a formal agreement and submit written progress and financial reports within one year of receiving funds;
- Grant awards are allocated for a fixed one-year period.
The PONC Stewardship Grant application is available through a new online grant portal. All applications must be completed within the new online grant portal. Late digital submissions will not be accepted.
