A magnitude 4.1 earthquake hits Big Island on Monday at 9:24 a.m., occuring 10 miles south-southeast of Hōnaunau-Nāpōʻopoʻo and at a depth of 14 miles below sea level, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

This earthquake is likely an aftershock of the magnitude 6.0 that occurred on May 23. The earthquake had no apparent impact on either Mauna Loa or Kīlauea volcanoes.

The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory continues to monitor Hawaiian volcanoes for any changes and said that aftershocks are possible in the coming days to weeks

For an island that is dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Lala, this earthquake is expected to cause no damage to buildings or infrastructure based on its intensity, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

There were 93 felt reports within the first hour, mostly in West Hawaiʻi.
