Hawaiʻi Police Department Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit Officer Adam Roberg received the 2026 Mothers Against Drunk Driving Award.
Roberg was honored for his outstanding commitment to impaired driving enforcement and traffic safety education.
He developed the department’s new “Heal Our Highways” program, which he started in October 2025. The initiative is aimed at getting impaired drivers off Big Island roads.
It promotes safer driving habits through community education, public research and increased awareness about the devastating consequences of impaired, distracted and reckless driving.
Roberg during the past year built partnerships with community and government agencies, organized sign-waving events around the island, hosted rallies and appeared on several media outlets.
“The focus is on the surviving family members of those impacted by traffic fatalities and educating members of the community,” said Roberg in a Hawaiʻi Police Department release about his award.
The Traffic Enforcement Unit officer throughout his 16-year law enforcement career has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to traffic safety.
His proactive enforcement efforts and passion for educating the public made a lasting impact on reducing dangerous driving behaviors and improving roadway safety around the island.
“Officer Roberg’s dedication extends beyond enforcement,” said Hawaiʻi Police Department Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit Sgt. Thomas Koyanagi in the department release. “His vision for the ‘Heal Our Highways’ program reflects his commitment to saving lives through education, prevention and community partnerships. This recognition by [Mothers Against Drunk Driving] is a testament to the positive difference he continues to make both on and off the roadway.”

Hawaiʻi Police Department congratulates Roberg on receiving the prestigious Mothers Against Drunk Driving Award and thanks the organization for its continued partnership in their shared mission of eliminating impaired driving and preventing needless tragedies on Hawaiʻi roadways.
