Police arrest 25 motorists for driving under the influence on Big Island roadways
Hawai‘i Island police continue their crackdown on motorists who drive under the influence of an intoxicant.
Police during the week of June 29-July 5 arrested 25 motorists for DUI. Five were involved in traffic crashes; three were younger than 21 years old.
There have been 403 DUI arrests so far this year compared with 480 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.04%.

Hawai‘i Police Department Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 508 major crashes so far this year compared with 540 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 7.93%.
There were 15 fatal crashes resulting in 17 fatalities as of July 5 around the island compared with 13 fatal crashes resulting in 14 fatalities during the same time period last year, an increase of 15.38% for fatal crashes and 21.43% for fatalities.
Police report DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
