Nine motorists arrested on Big Island roadways for DUI through June 15-21
Nine motorists were arrested for driving under the influence on Big Island roadways during the week of June 15 through June 21.
Two drivers were involved in a traffic accident, and one was under 21, according to a news release from Hawai‘i Island police. Most of the arrests occurred in Hilo, with four reported. There were two in Kona, two in Puna and one in South Kohala.

So far this year, there have been 364 DUI arrests compared with 445 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.20%.
Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 467 major crashes so far this year, compared with 503 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 7.16%.
As of June 21, there have been 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 17 fatalities, compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities for the same time last year. This is an increase of 15.38% for fatal crashes and 21.43% for fatalities.
In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
