13 motorists arrested for DUI during week of June 1-7 on Big Island roadways

Hawai‘i Police Department continues its crackdown on drunk and impaired driving, arresting 13 motorists for driving under the influence during the week of June 1-7 on Big Island roadways.

Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One of the drivers was younger than 21 years old.

There have been 343 DUI arrests so far this year, a 15.52% decrease compared with the 406 during the same period last year.

Hawai‘i Police Department Traffic Services Section also reviewed all updated crashes and found 428 major crashes so far this year, a decrease of 4.68% from the 449 major crashes during the same time frame in 2025.

However, there have been 14 fatal crashes resulting in 16 fatalities as of June 7 on Big Island roads, marking an increase of 16.67% for fatal crashes and 23.08% for fatalities compared with the 12 fatal crashes that resulted in 13 fatalities by the same time last year.

Hawai‘i Police Department reports DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
