A fire late Sunday night heavily damaged a unit at Hale Hauoli Apartments in Honokaʻa, according to the Hawaiʻi Fire Department.

Crews and the chief battalion were dispatched to 45-0540 Koniaka Place at 10:53 p.m. They arrived within minutes to find Unit 2A fully engulfed in flames, the fire department press release said.

Firefighters established a water supply, deployed two hose lines, and entered the apartment to conduct a rapid primary search while battling the blaze, rescuing one animal from inside the structure.

The fire was knocked down at 11:08 p.m. and brought under control by 11:12 p.m., with final extinguishment and overhaul completed shortly after midnight.

Fire officials said no residents were injured and no neighboring units were threatened by the fire.

Thirteen fire personnel responded, as well as three Hawaiʻi Police Department officers who assisted with crowd control

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
