A wind advisory issued for portions of Hawai‘i Island has been extended until 6 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, northeast winds of 15 to 30 mph are expected in the northern and southern portions of the Big Island, with gusts up to 50 mph.

The high surf advisory for east- and north-facing shores has also been extended into Saturday until 6 p.m.

Trade winds near and upstream of the state are generating surf above advisory levels with waves expected to reach 7 to 10 feet.

The National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory for Hawai‘i County in all districts with sustained winds of at least 30mph and gusts of at least 50 mph expected.

Impacts are expected to be moderate with strong-breaking waves and currents that will make swimming dangerous.
