Top 10 things to do on Big Island for April 24-30: Beekeepers, Denim Day, growing together, S. Tokunaga anniversary, native plants and more
This week’s top 10 has everything from an ongoing exhibit featuring the legacy of Hawaiʻi beekeepers to raising awareness about sexual assault and how to prevent it.
Hawaiʻi Beekeeper Legacy Project Exhibition runs through May 30 at Anna Ranch Heritage Center in Waimea, celebrating Hawaiʻi’s beekeeping history — from humble hives to global impact — and featuring an original documentary, photographs and more.
Join the community at Island of Hawaiʻi YMCA in Hilo to stop the violence on Denim Day 2026. It’s a day of awareness dedicated to the prevention of sex assault, so throw on your favorite pair of jeans and help stop rape and all forms of sexual violence.
Hawaiʻi County Office of Aging invites the community to grow together during a special intergenerational event that features a speaker talking about the farm-to-table movement, plant giveaway and more. It’s free to attend, but registration is necessary.
S. Tokunaga Store in Hilo — the No. 1 center on the Big Island for fishing supplies — invites the community to celebrate its 106th anniversary, including an in-store sale.
And bring the entire family to celebrate Native Hawaiian Plant Month at Keauhou Bay. You can learn about native plants around the home, connections between voyaging, native plants and canoe crops and more, along with fun hands-on and take-home activities and demonstrations.
While it’s not listed in this week’s top 10, we wanted to make sure everyone remembers the 13th Big Island Chocolate Festival continues this weekend, too, with the student chocolate competition, new Chocolate Farmers Market and farm and processing seminars Friday and culinary demonstrations plus the fundraising gala and silent auction Saturday.
