Small World Preschool in Waimea will host a 45th-anniversary hoʻolauleʻa (celebration) on April 25 at the Waimea Park and Community Center, inviting families and residents to join in a day of entertainment, food and activities.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Founded in 1981, the nonprofit preschool serves children ages 2 to 6 and offers early education programs from toddler care to pre-kindergarten. Over the years, the school has become a fixture in the Waimea community, educating generations of local children, according to a press release.

Barbara Ozaki, a founder and operations manager, said the anniversary reflects the school’s longstanding connection to the community.

“Small World Preschool was founded by four women who shared a vision of creating a joyful, supportive place for young children to learn and grow,” Ozaki said. “We feel incredibly grateful to celebrate 45 years surrounded by the community that has supported us from the very beginning.”

The school also is inviting Small World Preschool alumni and families to participate in the celebration by sharing photos and memories for the event’s Walk Down Memory Lane display. Alumni can submit photos by dropping them off at the school, emailing them to the organization, or bringing them to the event.

“This milestone is really about the people — the families, teachers, and children who have been part of Small World over the years,” said Pier Schutte, co-founder and site director. “We look forward to celebrating with our extended ‘ohana.”

Guests can enjoy live performances by Pacific Rhythms, Baba Tavares and Ho‘aikane, along with a variety of activities for keiki, including bounce houses, Kohala Mountain Train rides, face painting and balloon animals.

The event, organized with support from Naupaka Events and Weddings, is open to the public.
