Officer Christopher Kim honored by Kona Crime Prevention Committee
Kona Patrol Officer Christopher Kim was recently honored by Kona Crime Prevention Committee and named Officer of the Month for April, recognizing his quick thinking, composure and lifesaving actions during a critical medical emergency.

Kim’s Officer of the Month title is a direct result of his actions the morning of Oct. 28, 2025, when he saw an unresponsive man face down near the intersection of Palani Road and Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona.
The 51-year-old man had a faint pulse and was gasping for air.
Kim immediately requested medical assistance and began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR. He also used an automated external defibrillator, or AED, while waiting for medics to arrive.
He was assisted during the incident by a bystander, a registered nurse who provided additional aid.
Medics arrived and continued lifesaving efforts. The man’s condition stabilized prior to transport for further medical care because of the swift actions taken by Kim and assistance from the bystander.
The police department received multiple calls and emails from community members, medical personnel and Hawaiʻi Fire Department noting Kim’s early intervention was critical to the victim’s survival.
Kim is a member of the 101st recruit class and served in Kona since May 2025 upon graduating to solo patrol.
His demonstrated strong initiative and commitment to serving the West Hawai‘i community reflect Hawai‘i Police Department’s mission to provide the highest level of police service to the community.
