46th U.S. Senior Open qualifying conducted at The Village Course in Waikōloa

Qualifying for the 46th U.S. Senior Open was conducted April 2 at The Village Course in Waikōloa on the Big Island.

Sunny and breezy conditions greeted the 28 players to hit the links for the day, all vying for five spots to advance to final qualifying.

Will Yanagisawa of Long Beach, Calif., and Randal Sparks of Rio Rico, Ariz., were co-medalists, each turning in 2-under par 70 cards to top the list of qualifiers.

Akinori Tani of Japan and Rick Lloyd of Sandy, Utah, were the next two to qualify at 1-over par 73, followed by final qualifier Matthew Ujfalusi of Ardmore, Penn., who birdied the first playoff hole to beat out Tim Graves, Darren Sano and Kevin Hayashi with a 2-over par 74.

Those players now advance to final qualifying round at a site to be determined on the mainland.

The U.S. Senior Open Championship is scheduled for Scioto Country Club in Upper Arlington, Ohio.
