An unexpected breakdown of the Honomū well in South Hilo has Hawai‘i County officials issuing a water restriction notice requiring affected customers to reduce water use by at least 25%.

Along with Honomū Village, customers affected by the reduction include those living along Honomū Road, Māmalahoa Highway, including all side roads and lanes.

Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply is hauling water to meet customers’ needs. Reducing water use is necessary to maintain adequate water levels in the water storage tanks for all customers.

The county department is working to complete emergency repairs to return the well to service.
