Hawai‘i Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of a wallet theft at a Kailua-Kona shopping center earlier this month.

According to police, officers responded on Feb. 1 to a report of a stolen wallet from a vehicle parked at a big-box store in the 73-5600 block of Maiau Street. The victim told authorities the wallet contained a tracking device, which was later used to locate it near a retail business in the 73-4300 block of Hawaiʻi Belt Road.

At about 4:40 p.m. that day, surveillance video captured an unidentified man discarding the wallet into a recycling bin in the area, police said. The wallet was later recovered, but two credit cards were missing.
