Blood Bank of Hawai‘i will once again greet Kona donors this week in a new location at Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa in Keauhou.

The drive comes during a time of urgent need for blood, specifically O-negative. However, only about 3% of eligible donors nationally actually donate blood.

Blood Bank of Hawai‘i encourages people to make an appointment and help improve that statistic for the islands.

Schedule for this week’s drive in the resort’s Keauhou Ballroom is as follows:

  • 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today (Feb. 10).
  • 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 11).
  • 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 12).

Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa is located at 78-128 ʻEhukai St.

Blood Bank of Hawai‘i is grateful for the West Hawai‘i community and invites everyone — especially first-time donors — to come out and donate.

Hawai‘i’s unique island geography makes maintaining a stable blood supply even more critical. Participation of donors statewide is essential to ensure the islands maintain a steady blood supply.

Blood drives are conducted three times a year on Maui, Kaua‘i as well as Kona and Hilo on the Big Island to make sure residents throughout the state have the opportunity to donate.

The next drive in West Hawai‘i is planned in June.
