A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Big Island summits through early Saturday, as snow, freezing fog, and icy conditions make travel hazardous, forecasters with the National Weather Service announced.

An upper-level trough moving over the island is expected to bring snow showers through Friday evening, with up to 2 inches of snow possible at higher elevations. Freezing fog and icy road conditions could persist overnight, reducing visibility and making travel hazardous.

The advisory covers the Big Island summits and is expected to remain in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday, forecasters said.

Officials warned that blowing snow may significantly reduce visibility at times, with periods of near-zero visibility possible. Icing on roadways could further complicate travel conditions.
