Hawaiʻi Island police have identified the man found dead last month in Kailua-Kona as 51-year-old Paul Ascunsion of Kona, according to a press release.

Police reported on Dec. 17 that a body was discovered in a grassy area near businesses in the 74-5000 block of Kaiwi Street on the morning of Dec. 15.

Officers had responded to a report of an unresponsive man at about 7:27 a.m. and determined he was deceased.

“At this time, there are no indications of foul play,” Hawai‘i Island police reported in December. “The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Kona Patrol Division.”
