A wind advisory is in place for Big Island summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa until Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, southeast winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected.

Winds this strong can make driving and walking dangerous. The winds can forcefully open doors and damage hinges or slam doors shut, possibly causing injuries.

Motorists are advised to consider postponing travel to the summits until conditions improve.
