County announces early park closures for New Year’s Eve

Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation announces that several park facilities and cemeteries in South Hilo and Puna will close at 2 p.m. today, New Year’s Eve.

Parks and Recreation appreciates the public’s understanding and anticipates resuming normal operations New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2026.

The following locations and facilities will close early today (Dec. 31):

  • ‘Alae Cemetery.
  • Andrews Gym.
  • ‘Āhualani Park.
  • ‘Āinaola Park.
  • ‘Āinakō Park.
  • Carlsmith Beach Park.
  • Lokoaka Parking Lot.
  • Gilbert Carvalho Park.
  • Herbert Shipman Park.
  • Hilo Bayfront Beach.
  • Hilo Bayfront Soccer Fields.
  • James Kealoha Beach Park.
  • Keikiland Playground.
  • Kolekole Gulch Park.
  • Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole Park.
  • Lehia Beach Park.
  • Lili‘uokalani Gardens restroom.
  • Lōkahi Park.
  • Mālama Park.
  • Mohouli Park.
  • Mo‘oheau Park Bus Terminal bathroom.
  • Onekahakaha Beach Park.
