A new traffic signal at the intersection of Waikōloa Road, Paniolo Avenue and Pūā Melia Street in Waikōloa Village will start operating on Monday.

Before becoming fully operational, the signal will begin flashing at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, to prepare motorists for the change. The lights will flash yellow on Waikōloa Road and flash red on Paniolo Avenue and Pūā Melia Street.

The flashing red signal should be treated as a stop sign. For the flashing yellow signal on Waikōloa Road, motorists should proceed with caution and are advised to slow down. When turning, they should yield to traffic that has the right of way.

Message boards near the intersection will alert drivers of the flashing lights, which will stop when full operation begins at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 15.
