Applications for the 2026 Young Women in Leadership Award are now available from the Zonta Club of Hilo.

Open to high school and college students aged 16-19, this award encourages young women to participate in leadership positions by recognizing the candidate’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements, and a dedication to building a better world for women and girls through service and advocacy, according to a news release from the Zonta Club of Hilo.

“In order for more women to be represented in key decision-making positions worldwide, we must encourage young women to pursue careers or seek leadership positions in public policy making, government, and volunteer organizations and further their education with these aims in view,” said Zonta Club of Hilo President Laurie Higashi.

Eligible applicants should show a dedication to volunteerism, experience in local or student government, workplace leadership (paid or unpaid), and meaningful volunteer leadership achievements. Applicants are also asked to reflect on the problems limiting the empowerment of women in their own country and worldwide.
