More than 20 motorists arrested from Oct. 20-26 for DUI on Big Island roads
Twenty-three motorists were arrested during the week of Oct. 20-26 for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash, according to a news release from Hawai‘i Island police. None of the drivers was under the age of 21. Most of last week’s DUI arrests occurred in Kona, with nine.
So far this year, there have been 750 DUI arrests compared with 797 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.90%.

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 824 major crashes so far this year, compared with 809 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 1.85%.
To date, there have been 18 fatal crashes, resulting in 19 fatalities, compared with 23 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 21.74% for fatal crashes and 24% for fatalities.
So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
