Big Island police find nearly 100 grams of drugs upon execution of search warrant at Waimea home

A 46-year-old Waimea man was arrested last week and now faces several drug charges after Big Island police found numerous drugs and drug paraphernalia at his home in the Kohala community.

Hawaiʻi Police Department Vice Section officers arrested Joel Gorai after executing a search warrant at 9:10 a.m. Sept. 25 at his home and recovering the following items:

  • 16 grams of methamphetamine.
  • 7 grams of cocaine.
  • 7 grams of marijuana.
  • 2 grams of marijuana edibles.
  • 14 grams of marijuana concentrate (vapes).
  • 50 grams of Psilocybin (commonly known as “magic mushrooms”).
  • Various narcotic-related paraphernalia, including digital scales and clean and used zip packets.

Gorai was later charged with:

  • 4 counts of second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.
  • 1 count of second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug.
  • 2 counts of first-degree promotion of a harmful drug.
  • 2 counts of fourth-degree promotion of a harmful drug.

His total bail was set at $143,025.
